We warmly invite you and your family to attend the Seventh Biennial Northeast
Cochlear Implant Convention in Sturbridge, MA, this July. The theme of this
Convention, We Hear the World!, celebrates the many examples of cochlear
implant users participating fully and independently in the world around them.
These fulfilling accomplishments derive from more complete and satisfying human
communication in school, at work, and in social settings with friends. Toward this
end, educators and clinicians, working with adults and children, provide guidance
in the employment of communication strategies and innovative technologies.
The topics to be addressed include advances in processors, implants, surgery,
bilateral implants, music appreciation, classroom acoustics, improving health care
coverage, psychological supports, mainstream planning, and many more.
The keynote address, We Are the World, will be given by Josh Swiller, whose
acclaimed book, The Unheard, recounts his harrowing and humorous experiences
in the Peace Corps in Africa prior to getting his cochlear implant. His perspective
embodies the humor, pathos, and human connections we experience as we come
together at our conventions.
The Friday workshop, co-sponsored by Children's Hospital Boston, is called
Supporting Transitions for Learners with Cochlear Inplants. If you are the parent
of a child with a cochlear implant, please urge your child's educators and therapists
to visit www.cisupport.org or share this brochure, as they may wish to attend
the Friday session. They may decide to stay for Saturday and Sunday as well, so
as not to miss out on great sessions that will help your child!
Please register quickly! Registration forms are available if you click on "Registration" on the menu box above or below this page. In the past many Saturday and Sunday attendees
have told us that it was very valuable to come to the Friday evening festivities.
Then they were well acquainted, registered and oriented for Saturday morning,
and didn't miss out on the fun! We’ll look forward to seeing you in Sturbridge this July.
See you there!
