Ray Goldsworthy, one of our members, is in need of volunteers for a research project he is doing. Here's some information below.

Dear friends,

We are fortunate to have been funded by the National Institute of Health to study speech perception in noise for cochlear implant users. In particular, our research investigates how speech reception in noise can be explained by an implant user's ability to hear the difference between simple sounds, such as tones. Another aspect of the work investigates the development of new strategies based on this information in order to improve speech reception in background noise. I am excited about the future work.

The current study we are conducting consists of three 2-hour visits. Participants will be asked to listen to speech in noise and to simple sounds at a comfortable listening level. Participants will be reimbursed $15 an hour including travel times.

As many of you know, I am myself a cochlear implant user and am very excited about this research. Please contact me, Ray Goldsworthy, or Lorraine Delhorne, or call at 617-253-8134 if you would like to participate or if you have any questions.

Thank you kindly,
